Couple dead in Jatrabari house

A couple was found dead in their residence at Momenbagh in the capital's Jatrabari area on Thursday morning.
The deceased were identified as Shafiqur Rahman, 60, and his wife Farida Yeasmin, 50.
Police recovered the bodies around 6:30am from 175 no. house in Momenbagh, said Jatrabari Police Station's Inspector (operations) Md Tawhidul Haque Mamun. Shafiqur Rahman was working at Janata Bank.
Police said the couple used to live on the second floor of their four-storey building.
Romjan Ali, sub-inspector (SI) of Jatrabari Police Station, said they received a call from the National Emergency Service 999 around 6:30 am.
Later, they recovered Shafiqur's body from the parking space of the building and Farida's body from their bedroom on the second floor.
Md Tawhidul Haque Mamun said both the bodies bore injury marks.
The bodies were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem, added the inspector.
Abul Hasan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Jatrabari Police Station, said the reason behind the couple's death, which can be presumably suspected as murder, could not be known yet.
"Whether it is the outcome of an old dispute or a robbery incident it will be known after investigation," he said.
Initially, it is believed that when Shafiqur Rahman returned after Fazr prayers in the morning, he was first attacked. Later, the attackers killed his wife on the second floor, said Inspector Tawhidul.
The main gate of the building and the door of the couple's flat were found open. The almirah was also found open.
The upper two floors and one side of the ground floor were rented out.
Their son Emon, a sub-inspector of the Special Branch of Police, and his wife also live in the house. However, they were not present in the house on Wednesday night.
