Court appoints magistrate for entry into Benazir's flats

A Dhaka court on Sunday appointed a first-class magistrate to make an entry into the four confiscated flats owned by former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed and his family members.
Judge of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court Mohammed Ash-Shams Joglul Hossain passed the order after hearing a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Earlier on the day, Md Manzur Morshed, director of the Estate Management Department of the ACC, filed the petition, seeking appointment of a first-class magistrate.

ACC Public Prosecutor Mahmud Hossain Jahangir confirmed the news to the FE.
According to the petition, the same court earlier confiscated four flats 12-A, 12-B, 13-A and 13-B at 'Rancon Icon Tower' at Gulashan-1 in the capital and appointed ACC Director Manzur Morshed as their administrator (receiver).
After being appointed as the receiver, he visited the flats along with some other ACC officials on June 13.
They talked to the building's receptionist Mehrab Hossain who informed them that the flats' owners did not live there, and he did not know their whereabouts. The owners even took the keys of the flats with them.
Moreover, Md Jasim, manager of the building, was not found there.
The petition suggested that the magistrate should prepare an inventory of the goods kept in the flats.
Upon hearing, the court  ordered the deputy commissioner of Dhaka to appoint an executive magistrate.
Earlier, on June 27, the court appointed some administrators to look after the confiscated immovable properties of former IGP Benazir and his family members.
The properties include 24 kathas of land in Rupganj of Narayanganj, three kathas of land in Dhaka's Uttara area, two flats measuring 3075 square feet at Badda, 25 acres of land in Bandarban and six flats in Adabor of Dhaka.
