FE REPORT | June 28, 2024 00:00:00

A Dhaka court on Thursday allowed appointment of administrators (receivers) to look after the immovable properties of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed and his family members.

Judge of the Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court in Dhaka, Mohammed Judge Ash-Shams Joglul Hossain, passed the order after hearing a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The properties include 24 kathas of land in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj; three kathas of land in Dhaka's Uttara area; two flats measuring 3,075 square feet at Badda; 25 acres of land in Bandarban and six flats at Adabor in Dhaka.

Anti-Corruption Commission Public Prosecutor Mahmud Hossain Jahangir confirmed the court order to the FE.

He said the court has granted their petition, adding details could be known after release of the order.

ACC deputy director Md Hafizul Islam, also the investigation officer of the matter, submitted an application to the court in this regard.

Earlier on June 6 this year, the same court granted another petition filed by the ACC seeking appointment of administrators to look after some other immovable properties of the ex-IGP and his family members.

On May 23 this year, the court ordered the authorities concerned to confiscate properties under 83 deeds, which state 114 acres of land, and freeze 33 bank accounts under the name of Benazir and his family members.

Three days later, the same court ordered the authorities concerned to confiscate assets, under 119 more deeds, of Benazir and his family members in connection with alleged corruption.

It also directed them to confiscate eight wholly-owned and 15 partially-owned properties of Benazir, his wife Jissan Mirza, and three daughters.

The same court on June 12 ordered to confiscate those movable and immovable properties in three districts in connection with corruption allegations against them.
