A Dhaka Court on Wednesday ordered to confiscate the properties of five persons, including 'Kishor Alo' editor Anisul Hoque, after showing them fugitives in a case filed in connection with the death of Residential Model College ninth-grader Naimul Abrar Rahat.
The four other accused are - Mohitul Alam, senior sub editor of 'Kishor Alo', Kabir Bakul, head of event and activation of 'Prothom Alo', and executives Shah Poran Tushar and Shubashis Prmanik.
Metropolitan magistrate of Dhaka, Mohammad Jasim, passed the order after holding hearing on the case, said Advocate Prashanta Karmoker, who appeared in the case on behalf of the accused.
"The court ordered to seize the properties of five persons, and asked the bodies concerned to submit a compliance report in this regard in the court on September 20," he added.
Among the 10 accused of the case, these five accused had secured an order of the High Court (HC) upon the law-enforcing agencies not to arrest or harass them until framing the charge in the case, as their names were not mentioned in the case statement.
On November 6, 2019, Naimul's father Md Mojibur Rahman filed the case with 4th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka.
He alleged that his son died due to the 'negligence' of the authorities of 'Kishor Alo', a youth magazine of 'Prothom Alo', during the magazine's anniversary celebration.
The case was later merged with another case of Mohammadpur Police Station, filed following the unnatural death of the ninth-grader.
Md Abdul Halim, sub inspector of Mohammadpur Police Station and also investigation officer of the case, submitted the investigation report on January 16 this year, saying that negligence of the 'Kishor Alo' authorities has been found in the investigation over the death.
A Dhaka Court on the same day issued arrest warrant against 10 persons, including 'Prothom Alo' Editor Matiur Rahman.
Following a bail petition, the HC granted anticipatory bail to Matiur Rahman on January 20.
It also ordered the law-enforcing agencies not to arrest or harass the other five accused - Anisul Hoque, Kabir Bakul, Shubashis Prmanik, Mohitul Alam and Shah Poran Tushar - until framing the charge in the case, as their names were not mentioned in the case statement.
