A Dhaka court issued an ad-interim injunction on Monday upon operation of the new committee of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), a co-organisation of BNP.

At the same time, the court asked the newly-elected JCD president and secretary to explain in seven days as to why the new committee should not be declared illegal.

Senior Assistant Judge-4 of Dhaka, Nusrat Sahara Bithi, passed the order after hearing a petition, filed by Md Aman Ullah Aman, former assistant religious affairs secretary of JCD.

Advocate Masud Ahmed Talukder, a pro-BNP lawyer, confirmed the news.

On September 12, the same court issued an ad-interim injunction on holding the council of JCD, following a petition filed by the same person.

However, BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas declared the new committee of JCD on September 19, on behalf of the party acting chief Tarique Rahman, after a round of vote on Sept 18 Fazlur Rahman Khokon was elected the JCD president and Iqbal Hossain Shyamol was elected general secretary, as JCD held polls for electing its leaders after 27 years.

Some 481 councilors from its 117 units across the country voted to elect from nine aspirants vying for the post of president and 19 for the post of general secretary in JCD's sixth council.

Khokon won in a tight race bagging 186 votes, while his opponent Kazi Rownakul Islam Shrabon got 178 votes.
