Covid-19 death toll crosses 6,000-mark

Total fatalities from coronavirus infection (Covid-19) crossed 6,000-mark in Bangladesh with the government reporting 21 deaths on Wednesday.
With the latest figure, the total death toll from Covid reached 6,004 on the day, since the virus was detected in the country in March.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the number of people diagnosed afresh with coronavirus was 1,517 during the last 24-hour reporting time until Wednesday morning.
A total of 13,914 samples were tested on the day, while some 14,328 samples were collected during the last 24 hours, according to a press release of the DGHS.
The rates of infection and fatalities from Covid-19 remained almost static at 10.90 per cent and 1.45 per cent respectively.
On the other hand, the rate of recovery from the disease was recorded at 77.67 per cent, said the press release.
A total of 1,910 people recovered from coronavirus infection during the past 24 hours, it mentioned.
According to the official data, a total of 4,14,164 people have, so far, been infected with Covid-19, and 3,31,697 of them recovered from the deadly disease.
