Covid casualties approach 6,000

18 more die in the last 24 hrs

Eighteen more people died from coronavirus on Tuesday after the government reported 1,380 new Covid-19 cases during the last 24 hours.

This has pushed up the number of casualties to 5,699 since the virus was first detected in Bangladesh in March last.

Of the fatalities, 14 were males and four females.

Some 13,611 samples were tested during the last 24 hours while a total of 13,860 samples were collected across the country during the period, according to a statement issued by the state-run Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The rates of both fatalities and detection from the disease remained almost static at 1.46 per cent and 10.14 per cent respectively on the day.

Also, a total of 1,542 people recovered from Covid-19 during the last 24 hours, sending the rate of recovery to 78.44 per cent, according to the DG

According to the official data, a total of 3,91,586 people have so far been infected with Covid in Bangladesh and 3,07,141 of them recovered from the respiratory disease.
