Criteria for central bank's governor, deputy governor to be same

FE Report
The government has decided to maintain the same criteria for appointment of the deputy governors to the central bank as the ones applicable for appointment of governor, official sources said.
According to the decision, deputy governor(s) will be appointed for a period of four years and will be eligible to get re-appointed. But the deputy governor will not hold office if he attains the age of 65 years.
The government took the decision recently in line with section 10(4) of the Bangladesh Bank Order, 1972, which was amended in 2003.
One or more deputy governors will be appointed by the government on such salary and also on such terms and conditions as the government may determine except that neither the salary of a deputy governor nor his other terms and conditions will be to his disadvantage after his appointment, the BB order said.
The Ministry of Finance has already issued a gazette notification in this connection that will come into effect immediately.
"The period of the deputy governor has been specified through issuing such an order by the ministry," a senior official of the Bangladesh Bank (BB) told the FE Monday.
