CHITTAGONG, Apr 6: Despite blockade and shutdown, the Chittagong Customs House (CCH) has earned Tk 66.8783 billion as customs duty, value added tax (VAT), surcharge and others in the first three months of the calendar year 2015 against the target of Tk 57.2225 billion.

Revenue earned in the third quarter of the current fiscal is Tk 13.8806 billion higher than that of the third quarter in the fiscal year 2013-14, the official data show.

The CCH earned Tk 9.6558 billion more than the target set for the third quarter of the current fiscal year despite the fact that transport of cargoes from Chittagong Port to other parts of the country was seriously hampered due to non-stop blockade and frequent shutdowns in January and February.

Customs officials said there was a very little impact of blockade and hartal programmes on the import-export activities.

"Activities in the CCH have been facilitated following the introduction of the ASYCUDA World data software as the businesspeople could submit their documents online," said Hossain Ahmed, Commissioner of Chittagong Customs House.

AKM Akhtar Hossain, president of the Chittagong Customs Clearing and Forwarding Agents Association, said the importers and their C&F agents had no problem submitting the import documents during the blockade and hartal enforced by the BNP-led 20-party Alliance.
