The overall operation of Chittagong Port has improved, but it needs further improvement in management to harness its full potentiality as far as the economy of Bangladesh is concerned, said a port user Sunday.
"Though there is a good improvement in port operation after the government's recent imitative in this connection, but it's still a long way to go," managing director of Maersk Bangladesh Ltd Morten Moller Jenson said replying to a question at a programme arranged by his organisation to create traffic awareness and distribute stickers and T-shirts among rickshawpullers in the city.
He, however, stressed the need for management development of Chittagong Port as well as all other ports of the country.
Maersk Bangladesh Limited distributed stickers and T-shirts among 1,000 rickshawpullers to create traffic awareness.
Each rickshawpuller was given two stickers for sticking those on their rickshaws, and two T-shirts inscribed with basic traffic rules.
Distributing the T-shirts and stickers among the rickshawpullers at the Gulshan Youth Club field, Morten Moller Jenson said: "We have a plan to distribute more stickers and such T-shirts in future under this pilot project if the feedback is found encouraging."
He also said, as part of the corporate social responsibility, Maersk is also extending financial support for running three schools, of which two are in the city and one in Chittagong.
"We are also looking for such other schools, where we can also contribute," he further said.
Mahmud Hossain, marketing manager of Maersk BD LTD, briefed the rickshawpullers on traffic rules.
Sajjadul Hasan, general manager of Maersk, was also present on the occasion.
