Ctg port to remain operational during Eid holidays

CHATTOGRAM, Apr 20: Despite the closure of all government institutions and banks, Chittagong Port, the prime seaport of the country, will continue its operations under special management during the Eid holiday.
Omar Faruk, the secretary of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA), said, "The Chittagong Port will remain open during the Eid holidays. The operational activities of the Chittagong sea port will remain closed from 8 am to 4 pm on Eid day only. On other days, the port will remain operational under special management."
On the other hand, the port city of Chattogram is becoming vacant as many of the dwellers are going to their village homes to enjoy Eid-ul-Fitr with their loved ones.
However, the home-bound people are suffering in the port city as advanced tickets for buses, trains, and other vehicles have already been sold.
Many people were waiting in queues at Chattogram Rail Station for tickets, but the rail authority could not provide them as the tickets had been sold earlier.
Moreover, the staff at the Chattogram station of Bangladesh Railway has been accused of misbehaving with the home-bound people during the process of buying train tickets with National Identity (NID) cards.
Sources said that the Bangladesh Railway authority has arranged special trains and extra carriages in every train for the home-bound passengers, but the tickets had already been sold in the last few days. Some of the tickets are being sold by the officers and staff of the rail authority on Thursday.
Despite the crisis of tickets for rail and buses, many people have already left for their village homes to observe Eid-ul-Fitr. Although the Eid holidays begin on Thursday, many people left for their village homes on Wednesday.
It is reported that many people are leaving their city residences by microbus, minibus, trucks, and rented cars from Thursday. People are arranging alternative transport now and leaving the city even by boarding in trucks and covered vans from Chattogram.
