CHITTAGONG, Apr 11: Container management and movement enter digitalisation in the Chittagong Port next month in a major move to expedite its handling capacity and reach the service to the doorsteps of the port users as well. Through implementation of the Container Terminal Management System (CTMS) the port will ensure quick service to the importers and exporters, especially of the readymade garment sector and also make the handling activities by the berth operators more transparent and accountable to port users. CPA chairman commodore Anwarul Islam told the Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) leaders this evening that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to formally launch the CTMS project in the next month. Mr Islam said this when the leaders of the BGMEA Chittagong region headed by its first vice president Nasiruddin Chowdhury called on the CPA chairman at the Bandar Bhaban today. Nasiruddin urged the CPA chairman to take effective steps to remove hassles in handling cargo and deliver FCL export cargo within the next working day after placing indents and LCL import cargo to the CPA. He also urged the chairman to formulate a code of conduct relating to cargo handling by the private berth operators and enhance supply of adequate wagon for transport of cargo to the Kamalapur ICD in Dhaka. Local BGMEA leaders and senior port officials were present at the meeting.
