RAJSHAHI, Dec 9 (UNB): Anti-Corruption Commission Chairman Golam Rahman Wednesday said it is not possible to remove corruption from the state and society unless Members of Parliament (MPs) and political activities are freed from the vice.
He called upon people to build united social and mass movement against corruption to eradicate it from society.
The chief crusader against corruption made the call for waging the war on corruption while addressing a discussion meeting as chief guest in a city hotel on the occasion of the International Day against Corruption.
The ACC chairman urged all, specially youths, to come forward to join in the combat against corruption, said to have had a pervasive spread in recent times.
Golam Rahman hoped that the government would take initiative to reduce corruption from society.
The discussion meeting on 'Governance, Accountability, Transparency and Propriety' was arranged with the financial support of USAID, as part of massive campaigns staged in the city against corruption.
American Ambassador in Bangladesh James F Moriarty in his address to the function said the people, government and mass media of the world have come forward unitedly to create awareness about harmful effect of corruption on government, economy and society.

"It is no secret that like other countries, growth and development of Bangladesh has been hampered for a lack of transparency and accountability," he told the gathering.
Commitment and support are essential from government, civil society, businessmen, mass media and informed people for fight against corruption, the US diplomat said.
