DCC allows hawkers at 20 places, holiday market at two points

The Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) has selected 20 places for hawkers for selling their goods in the city, apart from a government move to introduce hawker identification cards, according to a DCC press release.
Currently, hawkers' registration is going on fast.
However, the holiday markets introduced after eviction of hawkers from the city streets early this year will no longer exist except in front of Matsha Bhavan and Motijheel Ideal College, the press release said.
The DCC also asked the hawkers to refrain from setting up any racks, curtains or such other materials on footpaths to facilitate movement of passers-by.
Besides, hawkers are advised not to erect any permanent structures on footpaths.
The press release also said the DCC will take stern action against those, who will extort any tolls or subscriptions from the hawkers.
The places selected for the hawkers include open spaces near Alam Market at Jurain, footpath in front of Samad Market at Jatrabari, both sides of Shaheed Faruk Road and the northern side of Jatrabari Road, open spaces near Sonali Bank at Motijheel, Link Road at Bangabandhu Avenue, Baitul Mukarram area footpath, Muktangan area, Shahbagh area, footpaths of Doel Sqaure, New Market, Gausia, Mirpur Road, footpath of Indira Road at Farm Gate, near Abhawa office at Rokeya Sarani, selected space at Mirpur 10, Rajuk field at Uttara, selected spaces on the footpath near Gabtali Bus Terminal and other selected spaces.
