Deadline for submission of tax returns ends

The deadline for submission of income tax returns by individual taxpayers ended on Sunday amid huge enthusiasm.
Special booths were set up outside all tax offices to help taxpayers submit returns without hassle.
Tax officials said the number of tax returns has registered a significant rise this year.
Talking to the FE, income tax member Ziauddin Mahmood said the data of the total number of tax returns will be compiled on Monday.
Tax offices received tax returns even after working hours on Sunday due to a rush of taxpayers.
The deadline for income tax return submissions by individual taxpayers was November 30 as per the income tax law.
It is known as tax day.
Officials said they have received tax returns until December 02 as November 30 and December 01 were public holidays.
The taxpayers who missed the deadline will have to pay 2.0 per cent penal tax in addition to their payable taxes.
The penal tax will also be applicable to those who have submitted applications to the deputy commissioner of taxes seeking more time.
