Death toll tops 600 as 7 more children die from measles, symptoms

The death toll from measles and measles-related symptoms has crossed the 600 mark in the country, as seven more children died in the past 24 hours until 8:00am on Wednesday.

With the latest fatalities, the number of deaths from confirmed and suspected measles cases has risen to 601 since March 15 this year, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in its daily bulletin.

Of the total deaths, 90 are confirmed measles cases, while the remaining 511 are suspected cases.

Among the seven latest deaths, six were recorded in Dhaka Division and one in Mymensingh Division, the bulletin said.

The DGHS also reported 55 new confirmed measles cases during the 24-hour period, taking the total number of confirmed infections to 9,191 since March 15.

In addition, 1,210 suspected cases were detected in the past 24 hours, pushing the cumulative number of suspected infections to 74,572.

According to the bulletin, 60,158 suspected measles patients have so far been admitted to hospitals across the country. Of them, 55,942 have been discharged after treatment.
