Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Wednesday said the amount of defaulted loans in the country is Tk 1.26 trillion (126,369 crore), reports UNB.
Apart from this, another Tk 210.46 billion (21,046 crore) is stuck due to the order of the High Court, as banks and financial institutions are not able to realise.
The minister said this while responding to a tabled question from ruling party lawmaker elected from Chattogram M Abdul Latif.
He said that the amount of defaulted loans of all banks and financial institutions of the country in the CIB database till March 2022 is Tk 1,26,389 crore.
Highlighting the steps taken by the government to identify defaulting customers and bring them under the law, the finance minister said that cases were being filed against loan defaulters.
