Dengue cases surpass previous annual records with four months left

The number of dengue infections reported by hospitals in the country since January has crossed 100,000 marks to reach at 102,191, surpassing previous annual records in eight months of the year.
The previous highest number of cases in a full year was 101,354 in 2019.
A total of 2,197 new hospitalizations were recorded in the 24 hours to Monday morning, latest data from the Directorate General of Health Services(DGHS) showed. Of the new cases 872 were from Dhaka.
The DGHS registered 9 more deaths due to mosquito borne dengue fever, including 6 from Dhaka.
The ever worsening dengue situation continues to deteriorate in other cities as the health authorities continue to record a growing number of new cases in other cities outside Dhaka.
The dengue hospitalization continues to rise outside Dhaka as the DGHS reported 1,325 cases outside Dhaka.
With the new casualties, the death tolls crossed 485 in dengue fever, including 363 from Dhaka.
Last year, 281 people died due to dengue, the second highest in the history of the country.
A total of 7,686 people were being treated across the country in hospitals. Of them, 3,607 were from Dhaka. Of the total admitted, 94,020 patients made recovery and returned home, and of the total, half of the recovery made from Dhaka, 45,358 in number.
