Dengue claims 13 more lives, 2799 hospitalized

Dengue claimed 13 more lives in the past 24 hours, including seven from Dhaka, bringing the total fatalities to 1030, said Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Tuesday. Of the total deaths, 662 were from Dhaka city.

The fatalities and cases of hospitalization due to the deadly disease This year are were the highest in the last 23 years. Last year, 281 people died due to dengue.

There were 2,799 more cases of hospitalization across the country, including 682 from Dhaka till 8:0 am Tuesday. The total dengue cases this year rose to 211,683. Of the total, 85,140 were from Dhaka, according to Health Emergency Operation Center & Control Room of the DGHS's daily update.

Dengue appears to coincide with the rainy season from May to September and higher temperatures in Bangladesh, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

The ever-worsening dengue situation showed no sign of improvement with the growing deaths and cases.

Furthermore, the health authorities also continued to report a growing number of new cases outside Dhaka. Of the new cases of hospitalization, 2,117 were reported from outside of Dhaka.

A total of 9,198 people were being treated in hospital across the country. Of them, 2,940 were from Dhaka.

Of the total admitted, 201,455 patients made recovery and returned home, including 81,538 from Dhaka with a 95 percent recovery rate.
