Dengue claims another life 226 more fall ill

A man died of dengue in Barishal on Saturday while 226 new cases were reported from across the country in 24 hours until the morning, reports UNB.

Abdul Khaleque, 65, of Chargazi village in Bhola Sadar upazila, died at the Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.

Dr Md Bakir Hossain, director of the hospital, said Khaleque was hospitalised with dengue on Friday noon in a critical condition. He died at 8:00 am.

In a daily briefing, the Directorate General of Health Services said 72 of the new patients were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka and 154 were hospitalised in other districts.

Currently, 1,233 dengue patients are being treated at hospitals.

Bangladesh has been grappling with a massive outbreak of dengue this year. A large number of patients put a severe strain on the country's overwhelmed medical system.

The government said 91,579 people had been hospitalised with dengue since

the beginning of the year. Of them, 90,104 recovered fully.

The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) confirmed the death of 93 dengue patients after reviewing 151 reports out of 242.
