Dengue claims six more lives


The health authorities on Saturday reported six more deaths including four in Dhaka due to dengue fever, taking the total fatalities to 1,466 this year.
Of the total deaths, 861 were from Dhaka, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Meanwhile, 1,512 people were admitted to hospitals across the country in the past 24 hours until 8:00 am on Saturday, including 417 in Dhaka, said the DGHS in its daily update.
The ever worsening dengue situation showed growing numbers of cases from outside Dhaka. Of the new cases of hospitalisation, 1,174 were reported from outside Dhaka.
The DGHS report estimated that the mortality rate among hospitalised patients was approximately 0.5 per cent.
This year, the total dengue cases have so far risen to 290,084 including Dhaka's 103,227.
Currently 6,373 patients are being treated nationwide in hospitals including Dhaka's 1,608.
Of the total admitted, 282,245 made recovery and returned home, including 100,758 from Dhaka, according to the health directorate.
Last year, 281 people died due to dengue, the second highest in the history of the country.
