Dengue: Five more die

Five people have died of dengue, while 1,107 more patients been hospitalised with the Aedes mosquito-borne disease throughout Bangladesh in the past 24 hours till Thursday morning, reports bdnews24.com.

The Directorate General of Health Services, or DGHS, said as many as 415 were admitted to hospital in Dhaka among the new dengue patients until Thursday morning.

In addition, 243 were hospitalised in the Dhaka Division, 35 in the Mymensingh Division, 117 in the Chattogram Division, 121 in the Khulna Division, 69 in the Rajshahi Division, four in the Sylhet Division, 22 in the Rangpur Division and 81 in the Barishal Division.

With the new counts, the number of hospitalised dengue patients has reached 77,127 this year. A total of 384 people died among them.

As many as 4,149 patients are currently undergoing treatment for dengue in hospitals across the country. They include 1,841 in the capital and 2,308 outside Dhaka.

The DGHS has been keeping records of dengue hospitalisations and deaths since 2000.

Since then, a record 321,179 dengue hospitalisations were logged in 2023. The highest 1,705 people also died of the disease that year.
