The advent of winter has sent temperatures tumbling and cast a veil of thick fog across Bangladesh, especially in the north, report agencies.

And, the Met Office expects dense fog to blanket the country from midnight to morning over the next three days.

In its 72-hour forecast issued on Friday, the Met Office said the weather is likely to remain dry, with partially clouded skies across the country. Westerly winds reaching speeds of up to 12 kph are expected to blow towards Dhaka.

Meteorologist Tariful Newaz said that day and night temperatures may remain unchanged, with only slight changes in overall weather conditions over the next five days.

The lowest temperature of 10.6 degrees Celsius was recorded in Chuadanga district on Friday morning.

Rakibul Hasan, in-charge of Chuadanga Weather Observatory Centre, said they have recorded 10.6 degrees Celsius at 9 am on Friday, which is the lowest temperature in the country.

The situation will continue for the next few days, he added. The shivering cold has disrupted the day-to-day lives of people, especially the daily wage earners in the district. People are being forced to remain indoors due to the cold.

Mahabub Morshed, who was sitting on the balcony of Chuadanga railway station said, " I came to Chuadanga with two friends from Dhaka for two days. In the meantime, the district recorded the lowest temperature in the country. "We are shivering."
