Deshbandhu Power Plant has agreed to supply up to two megawatts (MW) of electricity to the national grid before mid-December this year, sources said Wednesday.
The private captive power producer is expected to sign an agreement with Rural Electrification Board (REB) today (Thursday) at the REB headquarters in the city.
Deshbandhu Group managing director Golam Rahman and REB secretary Toraf Ali Akunjee would sign the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations.
Under the deal, Deshbandhu Sugar Mill would supply a minimum of one megawatt and maximum of two megawatts of electricity to the national grid from its Narsingdi plant.
The electricity supply will start before December 16 and the price of each unit of power has been fixed at Tk 2.21, REB sources said.
Deshbandhu Group produces five megawatts of electricity at its sugar mill plant, but the mill consumes three megawatts.
