The capital city wore almost a deserted look on Wednesday even after four days of Eid-ul-Azha as the offices and businesses remained closed due to extended public holiday.
Streets, lanes, by-lanes and public places like shopping malls were largely empty, allowing for faster transportation for those staying in the capital.
People along with their family members thronged different entertainment spots and open areas to enjoy their leisure. During visits across several spots including Paltan, Gulistan, Farmgate, Mirpur and Dhanmondi, it was found that a calm and quiet environment prevailed.
People of all ages specially youngsters with their parents were seen in a festive mood at different entertainment spots, including National Zoo, Botanical Garden, Zia Udyan, Parliament Building area, Diyabari in Uttara, Hatirjheel, Shishu Mela, and Ramna Park even amid the scorching heat.
Hundreds of visitors were spotted waiting in a long queue for hours to watch a one-hour show at the Novo Theater (planetarium).
Iqbal Ahmed, a bank official, turned up at the planetarium located in Bijoy Sarani area along with his three offspring from the city's Aftabnagar. Sharing his nice experience, he said, "It took only 30 minutes to reach here from my residence by rented car-almost one-third of the time it usually takes." He added that they wished to stay long at the planetarium, but time constraints have prevented them from doing so.
Rokhsana Akter came to Ramna Park with her two daughters in late afternoon. Though it's too hot outside, we came here to take a break from our long stay at home," she said. Many people also packed movie theatres to enjoy the latest cinemas.
