Dhaka should oppose carbon credit trading in Cancun

Trading of carbon credit is nothing but giving opportunity to some developed countries and their multinational companies in running carbon emission at the same or higher rate in a legal way, said speakers Saturday.
Moving to this trading would hamper the process of industrial development of the country, they said at a meeting.
They were speaking at a seminar titled 'Cancun Summit and Climate Justice: What should be the government and the civil society's initiatives' held at the Dhaka Reporters Unity in city.
They said it is ridiculous that the developed countries and the multinational companies are now trying to introduce a new system in which the countries which would have enough forestry and would keep carbon emission at a lower rate could gain carbon credits and the carbon offender countries could buy the credits and according to the amount of credits they could be legally able to run their industries or raise carbon emission.
Pointing it out as a wrong solution they said "And now many consultants and half-educated policymakers are dancing with the proposal without thinking about our national interest", the speakers said.
The speakers expressed their apprehension that trading of carbon or moving to this trading would hamper the process of industrial development of the country.
