Dhaka-Tashkent jt trade commission to be formed

Bangladesh will form a joint commission on trade with Uzbekistan with a view to finding barriers to trade expansion between the two countries and how to remove the obstacles.
Uzbek Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Economic Minister Ganiyev E Majidovich made a proposal to this effect when he met visiting Bangladeshi business delegation headed by Commerce Minister Faruk Khan Thursday, said a statement.
Joint Secretary of Ministry of Commerce Manoj Kumar Roy, Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) President Abdul Hai Sarker, leaders of cotton traders and senior officials of foreign economic ministry of Uzbekistan were present on the occasion.
Majidovich also urged Bangladeshi investors to invest in textile and pharmaceutical sectors in Uzbekistan.
According to the proposal, the joint commission will monitor trade between the two countries and provide necessary recommendation and on the basis of the recommendation further steps will be taken.
Bangladesh imports around 400,000 to 450,000 tonnes of cotton each year.
