A policy level dialogue between Japan and Bangladesh on Official Development Assistance (ODA) will be held in the city on Monday.
The dialogue is likely to set a guideline on disbursement of the Japanese commitment of US$ 6.0 billion in upcoming projects.
Official sources said a mission of the Japanese government will arrive here next week to attend the ODA policy dialogue to be held with the Economic Relations Division (ERD).
They said as per the proposal of the Japanese government, the ODA policy dialogue has been organised with the Bangladesh side apprising the mission of the ongoing Japan-funded projects.
"We expect the visiting Japanese mission to share the idea/design of the ODA policy to us during the dialogue," said an official preferring not to be named.
However, another official said the ODA policy dialogue is likely to give a guideline to Bangladesh as to how the $ 6.0 billion commitment of the Japanese government be allotted to the projects in the coming four five years.
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe announced the Japanese commitment of providing up to 600 billion Yen to Bangladesh in about 4 to 5 years from 2014 taking into account proper and smooth implementation of projects in the joint statement signed with his counterpart Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Hasina also welcomed the Japanese Prime Minister's proposal on dispatch of a mission to identify and discuss with the Bangladesh side details of economic cooperation in this regard.
Sources said the Bangladesh side is taking preparation to highlight the progress of the Japan- funded projects during the dialogue to show the status of ODA.
Some 21 projects are now under implementation with the fund of the Japanese government. The country's contribution to Bangladesh in the form of the ODA, grant and technical cooperation now crosses over $12 billion.
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the ERD signed the 35th ODA package in June committing 121 billion Japanese Yen, equivalent to around $1.2 billion for five projects on coal-fired power plant, natural gas efficiency, city governance, flood management and livelihood improvement and agricultural productivity improvement.
Prime Minister Hasina expressed her expectation of getting Japanese cooperation for five to six specific projects which include construction of the Ganges Barrage, multimodal tunnel under the river Jamuna, dedicated railway bridge over the Jamuna and ecological restoration of four rivers around Dhaka.
