Dhaka's low-lying eastern part inundated, flood death toll hits 916

Low-laying areas in eastern part of Dhaka got inundated in the last 24 hours until 6:00 am Sunday with the country's death toll from the flooding hitting 916, reports UNB.
According to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centren (FFWC), the country's central part was not under the threat of a second spell of flooding as the overall flood situation was improving and will continue to improve in the next 24-72 hours.
Health department sources said the death toll from flood-related incidents and diseases like diarrhoea, drowning, snakebites and respiratory problems has climbed up to 916 across the country since July 30.
The FFWC said the prevailing flood situation in the districts of Kurigram, Gaibandha, Bogra, Jamalpur, Sirajganj and Tangail is likely to improve further in the next 24-96 hours.
The situation in south-central part of the country like Rajbari, Faridpur, Manikganj, Munshiganj, Nawabganj and Dohar of Dhaka district, Madaripur, Shariatpur, Gopalganj and Chandpur is likely to start improving in the next 24 hours.
The flood situation in Sylhet and Sunamganj is improving slowly and is likely to improve further.
The FFWC said the Brahmaputra-Jamuna registered fall at all points but was flowing above the danger level by 15 cm at Bahadurabad, 77 cm at Sirajganj and 58 cm at Aricha Sunday morning.
The Buriganga at Dhaka recorded rise by 35 cm. The Balu at Demra registered rise and was flowing above the danger level by 2 cm.
Turag at Mirpur marked a rise by 9 cm. The Shitalakhya at Narayanganj registered a rise and was flowing above the danger level by 7 cm.
The Kaliganga at Taraghat, which recorded rise, was flowing 117 cm above the danger level.
The Ganges-Padma marked a fall but was flowing 12 cm, 106 cm and 88 cm above the danger level at Pankha, Goalundo and Bhagyakul points respectively.
The Surma was flowing above the red mark by 162 cm at Kanaighat and 30 cm at Sylhet and the Kushiyara points and was flowing 175cm above the danger level at Amalshid and 100 cm above at Sheola respectively.
