CHITTAGONG, July 31: Implementation of the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway four-lane project will be completed before next Ramadan, Communications Minister Obaidul Quader said Thursday.

He said this while inspecting the ongoing development work of the Oxygen-Hathazari Road in the northern part of the port-city. Development and expansion of this road will also be completed within the current fiscal year.

He instructed the engineers and senior officials of the Roads and Highways Department (RHD) to expedite work to finish the job on schedule. The Oxygen-Hathazari Road expansion   project has been undertaken by RHD, Chittagong zone.

Regarding delay in the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway four-lane work the minister said the rainy season has caused delay in the project.

"We hope the work will be completed before the next Ramadan," he said in reply to a query from the journalists.

The minister further said the government will show zero tolerance to any subversive activity of the opposition, as they said they will launch 'total' movement after the Eid-ul-Fitr to oust the 'illegal' government.

"But the government will rather show leniency towards the non-violent movement of BNP and its allies. If they resort to violence and arson, hurl bombs and kill innocent citizens to terrorize people, like they did last year before the national election, they will be dealt with a strong hand," he added.
