Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has decided not to provide any fund for repairing roads having width less than 20 feet to prevent illegal occupancy.
The DNCC came up with the decision at its 16th corporation meeting held at its headquarters in the city's Gulshan area on Wednesday, with Mayor Atiqul Islam in the chair, a statement said.
The Mayor said the DNCC would not provide any fund for improvement of the roads unless the grabbers leave from there. He also said that the widths of the city roads will be increased in coordination with the DNCC's estate department and other authorities concerned, including RAJUK.
"Illegal occupancy narrows the road and causes immense sufferings to the city dwellers," he said, adding that the city corporation would try to restore comfort for the people. The meeting also discussed withdrawal of battery-run auto rickshaws, issuing online councilor certificate and trade licence, and quick dumping of wastes, among others.
