Draft law on HC judges’ appointment ready

Law Minister Anisul Huq said on Saturday the draft law for appointing High Court judges has almost been finalised, reports UNB.
"The draft is almost ready and will be placed before the cabinet soon," the minister said while speaking at a certificate giving ceremony among newly appointed judges.
Bangladesh Bar Council organised the programme at the Officers Club in the city.
The minister also said the government is fully agreed to enact new law for the appointment of new judges.
"The lawyers don't get retirement benefits. Therefore, the government has decided to give Tk 400 million for the lawyers' benevolent fund," he said.
He also said the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) is expected to pass a project for constructing a 15-storey building for the Bar Council soon.
Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain was also present at the programme as the chief guest.
Congratulating the new lawyers, the Chief Justice said devotion is a must to gain success as a lawyer.
Urging the young lawyers to make the right decision, the chief justice said, "The role of lawyers is very crucial to establish rule of law in the country."
Bar Council Vice Chairman Advocate Abdul Baset Majumdar presided over the function while acting Chairman of the Bar Council Enrollment Committee Justice Md Nuruzzaman, chairman of finance committee Advocate M Rezaul Karim, member Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokan, former law minister Abdul Matin Khasru and chairman of Legal Aid Committee of Bar Council ZI Khan Panna were present.
