The country's consumer rights protection department Saturday conducted drive against adulteration of food in three city markets and realised fine worth Tk 119,000 from traders.
The monitoring team members of the consumer rights protection department conducted the drive under the Consumers' Rights Protection Act 2009 and fined eleven shops and hotel owners of Dhupkhola Bazar, Dayaganj Bazar and Kaptan Bazar in the city.
The monitoring team was headed by consumer rights protection department deputy secretary Md Abdul Baten.
The team conducted the drive in association with Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
Prices of rice, pulse, oil, sugar, ginger, onion, garlic, spices and different types of packaged food of the three markets were monitored and the team members warned the traders against selling essentials at higher prices than the fixed ones.
The government has already ordered the district administration to conduct drives to control unreasonable price hike of essentials across the country.
