A suspected drug trader was killed in an alleged gunfight with police in Paltan early Wednesday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Kamal Hossain, 35.
Police said they sent a team to the area at around 01:00 am after being tipped off that a group of 'drug traders' had gathered in Mahanagar Nattyamancha area.
As soon as police reached the spot, the 'drug traders' opened fire, triggering a skirmish, a source at Paltan Police Station said.
Later, police found Kamal with bullet wounds and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
They also recovered a pistol, 100 Yaba pills and hemp from the spot.
Kamal was wanted in several cases filed with Paltan and Ramna police stations, according to police.
