DSE shares drop slightly

Shares in the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) dropped slightly in the week that ended Thursday.
The benchmark DSE General Index (DGEN) closed at 4,393.64, down by almost 1 per cent as it opened the week at 4437.73.
The broader All Shares Price Index (DSI) lost 1.25 per cent or 46.08 points to close at 3,642.04.
The DSE-20 blue chip index also shed 1.24 points to end at 2,548.88.
The week's daily average turnover dropped 4.41 per cent to Tk 9.55 billion (955 crore) from the previous week's Tk 9.99 billion.
Losers far outnumbered the gainers as out of 256 issues, 60 moved into the positive territory, 181 ended in the red and 15 were not traded.
The total turnover also went down 23.53 per cent compared to last week as there was no trading Wednesday, the Victory Day. It was Tk 38.2 billion against the previous week's Tk 50.0 billion.
BEXIMCO, one of the largest conglomerates of the country, ended as turnover leader with its shares worth Tk 2.58 billion traded in the week.
They were followed by AB Bank, Shahjalal Islami Bank, Standard Bank, Jamuna oil, NCCBL, Premier Bank, BEXTEX, City Bank and Peoples Leasing & Fin Services.
Pragati Insurance was the top gainer of the week as it posted a 21.10 per cent increase.
Standard Insurance, Shahjalal Islami Bank, Jamuna Bank, Standard Bank, Uttara Finance, GlaxoSmithKline, Premier Bank, Mutual Trust Bank and IDLC Finance Limited were other major gainers.
Metro Spinning, Alltex, Dulamia Cotton, Modern Dyeing, Renwick Jajneswar, Rangpur Foundry, Hakkani Pulp & Paper, Sonargaon Textiles, Standard Ceramic and BIFC were the major losers of the week.
