DU expels 4 for assaulting 3 journalists, 10 students

Dhaka University (DU) Saturday temporarily expelled four students on charge of assaulting three reporters and at least 10 students of Mass Communication and Journalism Department Thursday night.
The expelled students are third-year student of Anthropology Department Aminul Islam Amin, second-year students of History Department Shishir, Saiful Islam of Sociology Department and masters student Belayet of Theatre and Music Department.
All the four are activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) of DU F Rahman Hall unit.
DU syndicate took the decision of expulsion at a meeting with its Vice-Chancellor SMA Faiz in the chair. The meeting also formed a five-member committee with Arts Faculty Dean Sadrul Amin as convener to investigate the incident of beating reporters and students by the JCD activists.
"The committee will submit its report within next three days. It will also investigate the allegation of demanding toll by Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders and activists from the contractor and the engineer of a five-storey under-construction residential building at DU Jagannath Hall", the DU VC told reporters Saturday.
