Students of Dhaka University (DU) again took to streets on Tuesday against a High Court verdict reinstating quota in government jobs. They blockaded the road at Shahbag in the city on the day.

The students brought out a procession from the Central Library of Dhaka University and took a position at Shahbag intersection.

At that time, the students announced that they would continue their agitation until the cancellation of quota.

Students were voicing their 4-point demand. The demand includes --

n Abolition of quota system in government jobs announced in 2018 and retention of merit-based recruitment circular.

n Expeditious abolition of unreasonable  and discriminatory quotas in all grades of government jobs (except underprivileged and disabled) by constituting a commission.

n Quota facility cannot be availed more than once in the recruitment test for government jobs and in case of non-availability of eligible candidates in the quota, recruitment will be made based on merit.

n Taking effective measures to ensure a corruption-free, impartial and merit-based bureaucracy.
