Dhaka University (DU) Vice Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan has submitted his resignation letter to the President, seeking to step down from his position.
According to a press release issued by the university's Public Relations Office, Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan met Education Minister A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milan on Sunday morning and submitted his resignation letter addressed to the President.
During the meeting, the education minister sought the VC's views on the current and future challenges and prospects of DU, as well as the steps needed to improve education and research. The minister also requested his continued cooperation in addressing these issues.
Professor Niaz briefed the minister in detail about the university's academic and research activities, ongoing and future plans, and matters related to campus security and stability. He reaffirmed his commitment to continue working for the development of DU and the country's broader education sector.
The DU statement further said along with requesting release from the post of VC, Dr Niaz also applied to return to his original position as a Grade-1 Professor at the Department of Development Studies.
On February 10, Professor Niaz expressed his intention to resign at a press conference. At that time, he said, "I feel that we have reached a good stage in fulfilling our responsibilities, and I would like to step down."
