The two-day protest programmes of the pro-Awami League (AL) teachers of Dhaka University (DU) ended Sunday with observance of a half-day work abstention demanding unconditional release of AL chief Sheikh Hasina.
Classes were hardly held at the Arts, Social Sciences and Science faculties as none of the teachers belonging to the blue panel and pink panel (leftist) took classes Sunday. Students said that classes at the Faculty of Business Studies were held as usual.
Many of the white panel (BNP-Jamaat-backed) teachers came to the university and attended the classes as they were against work abstention. The teachers, having no political affiliation, also took classes. But attendance of students was very few due maily to heavy rainfall.
Several students, having failed to get teachers at Arts and Social Sciences faculties, expressed resentment over the work abstention by the teachers.
"We want to do classes. We do not want to see any chaos on the campus that may hamper our studies", said Nazrul Islam, a first-year student of Economics Department.
