Online registration of the US Diversified Visa (DV) 2012 will open on October 5 and continue through November 3 this year, US consular section chief Sandra Ingram announced in the city Sunday, reports UNB.Ingram said the DV visa programme makes 50,000 permanent resident visas available each year to nationals of countries with low rates of immigration to the US. Each eligible country like Bangladesh has scope to get maximum 6,000 DV visas this year. She said so far 39,000 Bangladeshis immigrated to USA on DV visa since 2000.
The consular chief said DV recipients are randomly selected from all entries worldwide. She, however, reminded that receiving a "winner"' letter does not in itself qualify an entrant for visa. She added that there are two criteria that all entrants must meet to qualify for a Diversified Visa. First, entrants must accurately complete entry form and submit a recent photograph; and secondly entrants must show that they have either the required education or work experience.
Ingram said that to meet the education requirement, entrants must have a high school education or its equivalent. Generally, a Bangladesh government-issued HSC is considered to be equivalent of a US high school education.
A two-year technical board certificate or a first year pass from a nationally accredited university will also meet the education requirement.
She said the majority of Bangladesh's DV entrants qualify based on their education. However, those who do not qualify educationally may also qualify based on their work experience.
To qualify on work experience or occupationally, entrants have to show they have at least two years of work experience within the past five years in an occupation requiring at least two years of training or experience.
Ingram said online entries will be accepted starting at 10pm (local time) on October 5 and ending at 10pm (local time) on November 3. She encouraged all applicants to submit their online entries as soon as possible and not to wait until the final days of the registration period. Due to heavy traffic, the website may experience delays if one waits until near the end of the registration period to submit online application.
