The government has imposed a ban on the imports of e-cigarettes to protect public health.
The commerce ministry recently issued a circular in this regard. As per the circular, the order will take effect as early as possible.
E-cigarettes are categorised as electronic nicotine delivery system (ENDS) products.
The decision to impose the ban was made in line with a government move taken nearly a month ago to restrict the imports of all e-cigarette-related products to protect public health and future generations from their harmful effects.
On December 12 last year, the interim government's Advisory Council approved a proposal to include e-cigarettes in the list of prohibited imported goods under the existing import policy order issued by the commerce ministry.
The approval was given at a meeting of the council held at the Chief Adviser's Office. Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus presided over the meeting.
