The Election Commission (EC) has formed a monitoring cell to check rumours and propaganda in social media centring the 11th parliamentary election slated for December 30, reports BSS.
"The team, consisting of eight members, will work round the clock to check and stop all types of rumours in social media, including Facebook, centring the forthcoming election ," Joint Secretary of the EC Secretariat SM Asaduzzaman said.
He said NID Department Director General Brigadier General Saidul Islam has been made chief of the monitoring cell. The other members are representatives from police headquarters, Special Branch of Police, RAB, Bangladesh Computer Council, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre and a senior maintenance engineer from EC, he added.
Asaduzzaman said the cell will work for 24 hours to stop any type of rumour and propaganda and will inform the Election Commission to take necessary steps against the culprits.
The official order signed by EC Senior Maintenance Engineer Mohammad Ashraf Hossain has already been sent to the concerned offices related to the monitoring cell.
