EC decides to deploy army from Dec 29

The Election Commission (EC) has decided to deploy troops from December 29 ahead of the January 7 parliamentary polls.

The decision came at a meeting of the EC officials with the Bangladesh Army's principal staff at the Nirbachan Bhaban on Monday night.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal chaired the meeting, according to local media news.

The deployment of army troops will continue till January 10.

Some 750,000 members of law and order forces will be deployed in the upcoming national polls.

The 12th parliamentary election is set to be held on January 7, as per the schedule announced by Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal on November 15.
