EC to allow BB access to more NID info

May 09, 2014 00:00:00

The Election Commission Thursday decided to give the Bangladesh Bank access to nine pieces of information on a National Identity Card instead of the existing six, reports UNB quoting a commissioner.

The EC would amend its agreement signed with the central bank to that effect, he said.

On request of the central bank, the commission agreed to give the central bank access to three more pieces of information: a voter's permanent and present addresses, profession and name of husband, if applicable, said Election Commissioner Shah Nawaz.

According to the agreement signed with the central bank in 2012, the BB has now access to six information of a voter on the commission's server.

The six are voter's name, name of father, name of mother, birth date, blood group and photograph.

Only voters are entitled to get NID cards. And more than 90 million people out of the country's 91.95 million voters have already received NID cards.

Besides BB, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) currently has access to the NID data.
