EC to send reform proposals to parties soon

August 10, 2007 00:00:00

The Election Commission (EC) is set to start sending its draft reform proposals on related electoral laws to the political parties at the end of the current month (August), reports UNB.
Meanwhile, EC sources said the main task of preparing voter list in Rajshahi is going to start from August 14 without any formal inauguration. Besides, the EC wants to start the task at Dhaka in winter.
"Whether there will be ban on indoor politics is a matter for the government…We will discuss (reforms) with political parties," Election Commissioner M Sakhawat Hussain told reporters at his office Thursday noon.
Asked to whom they would send the draft reform proposals as a fragile situation was now prevailing within the political parties, Sakhawat said they would send the draft proposals to the existing political parties prior to sitting for dialogue.
"The EC is not concerned about the reforms of the political parties," he said. "We'll send our draft reform proposals to the party addresses end of this month… We're determined to follow our roadmap strictly," he added.
"If the draft comes back from the party offices, we'll send those to the addresses of the party president and general secretary," Sakhawat said.
