FE ReportThe government Tuesday approved a project, costing Tk 1.50 billion, to repair the dilapidated Meghna Bridge on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway within a year, officials said.
Presided over by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) Tuesday approved 10 development
projects, at the total cost of Tk 44.58 billion.
The Roads and Highways Department (RHD) will repair the bridge on an urgent basis, as a Malaysian company's feasibility study found its condition 'very risky' for traffic movement and recommended immediate rehabilitation.
The government will arrange the entire fund from its own resources for repairing the 930-metre-long bridge on the country's busiest corridor, as it has failed to mobilise any foreign assistance for the project.
The ECNEC also approved spending of Tk 32.17 billion for the Dhaka Elevated Expressway Construction Project for its land acquisition, rehabilitation of people, and shifting of utility services from the project area.
