Edible oil, coarse flour (ata), egg, sugar and bottled water got dearer last week further battering the consumers who had already dug deep into their pockets to make the ends meet due to rising costs of other essentials.
Prices of imported onion also showed a Tk 10 a kg hike though local one remained static in the past seven days, said traders.
The government last week reviewed the cost of edible oil as it set bottled soybean oil's price at Tk 205 per litre from Tk 198 earlier. Loose soybean oil price was set at Tk 185 a litre and the super palm at Tk 158.
The loose soybean oil was traded at Tk 185-190 a litre on Saturday. On the other hand, the super palm oil price soared to Tk 175-180 on Saturday---much higher than the government-fixed rate.
The price of packed ata or coarse flour continued to rise in the week, hitting Tk 56 a kg while loose ata remained static at Tk 48-53 a kg.
Farm egg (brown) price increased further to Tk 135 per dozen from Tk 130 while white egg to Tk 125 from Tk 120 a dozen.
Loose sugar price further increased by Tk 3.0 per kg to Tk 85-88 a kilo while packed sugar remained static at its previous high of Tk 85-100 a kg.
Imported Indian onion price hit Tk 60 a kg in the past week marking a Tk 10 a kg hike amid the government's restriction on imports. Local onion remained static at Tk 40-45 a kg.
Price of bottled water, a daily
necessity for consumers, including the commoners, also showed a hike as per litre pet bottle of water shot up to Tk 25 from Tk 20 earlier.
Meanwhile, powdered milk of different brands became costlier by Tk 30-40 a kg in the week as was sold at Tk 690 a kg (Marks brand) and Tk 740 per kilo (Dano) on the day.
