Authorities of the education boards are thinking about an alternative schedule to hold junior grade examinations across the country as the regular routine has been disrupted due to political violence.
According to the board officials, the alternative schedule may include holding examinations during the holidays like Friday and Saturday or two examinations daily.
"We may be forced to hold two examinations in a day, if such violent political movements like nationwide general strike continue further," Dhaka Education Board Chairperson Prof Dr Dilara Hafiz said adding that they have to finish the examinations and publish the results within the timeframe.
She said they have already shifted two Junior School Certificate (JSC) and Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) examinations to Friday as Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami had called shutdown across the country during the public examinations.
Earlier, Jamaat called 72-hour hartal for Thursday of the previous week, Sunday and Monday of this week after International Crimes Tribunal-1 handed down death penalty to Motiur Rahman Nizami for his crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.
And on Sunday, it called another 24-hour hartal for today (Thursday) protesting the verdict that sentenced its leader Mir Quasem Ali to death and they included Wednesday also for another ICT verdict that upheld death penalty for Muhammad Kamaruzzman.
Talking to the FE, Dr Dilara Hafiz said apart from the junior grade examinations, they have to take necessary preparation for the Primary School Certificate (PSC) examinations, the largest public examination slated for November 23.
"We are now just at the end of the calendar year which is considered as our peak time because academic institutes usually take their annual examinations and publish results before the closing of the year,", she noted.
She, however, called upon the political parties to exempt the public examinations from strike as the students have become scared of such violent political movement.
"Over 2.0 million junior grade students are due to sit for the public examination across the country," the Dhaka Board chief said adding that they are from all sections of people regardless of political parties.
She also called upon the guardians to raise their strong voice against such a destructive political programme as it is very harmful for the growing kids.
Because of the general strike, examinations scheduled for November 02, 03, 05 and 06 were shifted to November 07, 14, 19 and 20 respectively.
