Eid celebrated without Covid restrictions

Bangladesh on Tuesday celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the important religious festivals of the Muslims that marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, with religious fervour, report agencies.

This was the first Eid celebration without Covid-19 pandemic related restrictions.

Devotees offered Eid Jamaat at permanent and makeshift Eidgah maidans across the country, including in Dhaka, after a hiatus of two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the capital, the main Eid congregation was held at National Eidgah Maidan at 8am. Along with several politicians, Dhaka South City Corporation mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh was present at the Eid Jamaat.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, no Eid jamaat were held at the National Eidgah, adjacent to the High Court, in the last two years.

In Chattogram, two Eid congregations were held at Jamiyatul Falah Masjid Eidgah in the city at 8am and 9am, respectively.

Deputy minister for education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, city Awami League president Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury, general secretary AZM Nasir Uddin, former city mayor Mir Nasir, and city Jatiya Party chairman Solaiman Alam offered Eid prayers at Jamiyatul Falah Masjid Eidgah.

In Barishal, the main Eid Jamaat in the city was held at Hemayetuddin Central Eidgah Maidan at 8.30am.

Barishal city mayor Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah, divisional commissioner Amin-ul-Ahsan, deputy commissioner Jashim Uddin Haider, and city Awami League president AKM Jahangir, among others, attended the Eid congregation.

In Sylhet, more than one lakh Muslims offered Eid prayers at the 300-year-old historic Shahi Eidgah Maidan. Peer Maulana Rashidur Rahman Farooq conducted the Eid Jamaat at 8.30am.

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen and Sylhet mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury participated in the Jamaat and exchanged greetings with the devotees.

In Bagerhat, the main Eid Jamaat was held at Sixty Dome Mosque (Sha? Gombuj Moshjid) at 7.30am. Senior administration officials and people's representatives were among others who attended the Eid prayers.

In Gazipur, the main Eid congregation of the district was held at Central Eidgah Maidan of Bhawal Rajbari at 8am.

Mufti Maulana Kamrul Islam Nomani, imam of Gazipur Central Jame Mosque, conducted the Eid Jamaat.

Asadur Rahman Kiron, acting mayor of the city corporation, was present at the Jamaat.

In Brahmanbaria, thousands of Muslims offered Eid prayers at various Eidgahs in the district this morning. The main Eid Jamaat in the district was held at Zilla Eidgah Maidan in the town at 8am.

In Cumilla, the main Eid congregation in the district was held at Cumilla Central Eidgah Maidan at 8.30am.

Monirul Haque Sakku, mayor of the Cumilla City Corporation, among others, spoke to the devotees at the Jamaat.
