Eid holidaymakers continue to return to Dhaka

Holidaymakers continued to return to the capital on Monday after celebrating Eid-ul-Azha festival with their near and dear ones.
Tens of thousands of city dwellers were seen returning to the city as government offices, banks, business establishments and educational institutions resumed on Monday (01 June 2026) after an extended seven-day Eid-ul-Adha vacation.
The city's key transport hubs witnessed heavy crowds and an influx of the holidaymakers.
Major transport hubs, including Kamalapur Railway Station, Sadarghat Launch Terminal and the Gabtoli, Sayedabad and Mohakhali bus terminals were packed with heavy inbound passengers.
While visiting Kamalapur Railway Station, the FE correspondent found that thousands of passengers were arriving at the station from different destinations.
Passengers said they didn't face any trouble while travelling.
A railway official at the station said most of the intercity trains arrived at Kamalapur Station on time.
However, some local trains arrived at the station a little bit beyond their scheduled time.
Sayedabad and other two bus terminals saw the arrival of thousands of passengers also.
An operator at Star Line Paribahan, a bus service operating from Dhaka-Feni-Dhaka, said their buses had arrived at Sayedabad on schedules as there was less traffic congestion on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway on Monday.
Passengers said they have reached the capital without facing any major traffic jams on the highways.
Meanwhile, passengers, those who arrived at Sadarghat Launch Terminal on Monday, said they didn't face any problem while travelling.
According to them, launch operators didn't change extra fares from them.
Meanwhile, a good number of people, who did not travel during the Eid-ul-Adha, were seen heading towards their villages, thus creating a unique bidirectional flow at major transit points.
Many holidaymakers said they experienced relatively smooth, hassle-free travels on highways and waterways.
However, traffic in the capital Dhaka increased from Sunday following the resumption of government offices, banks, business establishments, markers and many educational institutions.
